It's definitely down. He's very slow to respond to outages. It may come back.

Does anyone know if the CamBam website has come to an end ?
Thank you.

If the forum ever comes back up, I think it would be good to try to get a static copy archived in the Wayback machine. A couple of days ago I was trying to find a workaround for a known bug and a Google search showed the titles of several topics that looked relevant, but the links didn't work and they weren't saved on archive.org either.
I dropped him an email this morning (support address) asking about the status of site and software. If I hear anything I'll relay it back. I also offered to host the site on my hosting account, but I expect he might not like having somebody else have control over it. Anyway. I offered.
Not sure about the site itself, but the forum is subject to update / security issues. SMF really needs to be kept up to date for the latest versions, and the latest versions require newer versions PHP and MySQL versions. A lot of that is over my head. On the one forum I still operate I keep it updated, and when it requires newer back end versions of software I just ask my hosting company and thy install whatever version I need.

We really need the Cambam forum, it is a most useful resource for chasing up issues and resolutions. Please encourage Andy to try his best and get it back on air.

As Bob said, most of this stuff is over my head but I do know two things;
1. These days it is highly unusual for a website to be down, and for extended periods.
2. Reliable hardware and software can be sourced quickly to replace those that are broken and as Bob also said, these could be handled by a third party.
It does however require someone or organisation with a "will" or purpose to carry these forward.

Hello Alex,
How can I do that ? I see an option to save one page, but how to archive the whole forum ?

It should be relatively automatic. I know a forum I shutdown a few years ago is still accessible on The Wayback Machine.
Actually, I took it private a few years ago and recently shut it down, and the content from before I took it private is still available on the Wayback Machine.
The way it's saved seems to be sporadic, but as long you stay within it's boundaries a tremendous amount of content is available. Script base auto-generated links like a forum search request does not work, but much of the content exists.

Remember that forum is a different URL from the e-commerce site.

For some reason my earlier post repeated itself and there is not Edit button showing to correct it. ?
I agree that the Wayback Machine is a good idea if it will work.
Currenty I'm working on saving what I can from the website (other than the main doc that is always available in CamBam with the F1 key), like the install files/information for linux and the plasma cutter and I'll add them on my own Cambam site. (the French doc)
some pages that currently exists only on my site

Does anyone know (on this site) how to make a post show 'red' (or 'read') when you've read it? The only active post right now is this one, and no matter how many times, or how many buttons I click, I cannot make it appear to be 'read' (red in color).
Lloyd
hide and seek, I found it.
Have a quick look before it's gone again
