thought id share some early on shots of our retrofit on a Hardinge Superslant Twin turret
this is a 3axis lathe with XZ top turret,
then just a Z turret on the bottom for drilling and bar stopping etc.
(4axis and 5axis(power tooled) versions where made)
machine uses C16 collets, bigger version of the C5.
machine has a 4.5M Multi tube Hydraulic bar feed.
Old control was Fanuc 6T which died needing a hefty repair bill so retrofit time it was.
here are some Pics from early on.
Machine its self.
The Two Turrets
Control Cabinet,
3x Axis Drives, DC Spindle Drive at the far end
relays and fuses at left end.
PC Board fitted, and IOs started to be linked in to the mesa cards
will find a photo of there grate big mount of cables and I/O Cards
If you have yellow or black cap fanuc dc motors you will need to add tachs to them or change the drives,as the motors will run away the second you put power on them.Fanuc used a pulse off the encoder run thru the original control to simulate the tach voltage to the drive. If you check out the mazak retro on the EMC site you will find they ran into the same problem the hard way.Im working on an EMC retro on a hardinge HNC,good luck with your project!
these have Siemens Drives and Motors the same as our little CHNC (which will be converted some day too) so just tacho feedback we have all manuals so i have spent some time resetting the drives etc while at it.
this machine has the tachos on the screw not the motor of all places we have the machine moving now and everything pritty much working i will try and upload some vids soon of it in action
the HNC seems to be a very popular machine to retrofit lately
